The First Computer Bug Was a Real Bug!
π The First Computer Bug Was a Real Bug!
In the world of technology, we often talk about "bugs" in software — errors, glitches, or unexpected behavior in programs. But did you know the very first computer bug was actually an insect?
Let’s rewind to 1947, when engineers were working on the Harvard Mark II, an early electromechanical computer used by the U.S. Navy. One day, the machine began malfunctioning. After a thorough inspection, the engineers found the culprit: a moth had gotten stuck inside one of the computer's relays (a type of switch), causing it to short out.
They carefully removed the moth and taped it into the computer’s logbook with the note:
π “First actual case of bug being found.”
This tiny incident led to the now-famous term "debugging" — which originally meant removing a real bug but is now used to describe the process of finding and fixing errors in computer code or hardware.
π‘ Fun Fact:
That original moth is still preserved in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History!
π ️ Why it matters for today:
Even the smallest error can cause big problems — whether it’s in code, hardware, or firmware. That’s why debugging, testing, and expert service are critical in tech repair and data recovery.
